Slovakia (Slovak Republic) is a country in the east of central Europe, bordering Ukraine, the Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary and Austria. The capital is Bratislava.
Today, Slovakia is one of the most attractive jurisdictions for doing business in Europe. Thanks to its membership in the EU, the country has a stable economy, which helps support small and medium-sized businesses with favorable tax rates and attracts foreign investors. The developed European infrastructure and the country's favorable location in the center of Europe attracts international trade, logistics and manufacturing companies. Slovakia is also attractive for IT companies, startups, and innovation companies, as the country has tax incentives and programs to support technology and investment projects.
One of the key features of registering a company in Slovakia is the need to obtain a license for any commercial activity. Licenses are divided into three main categories:

Opening a Slovak company with Ukrainian directors is a more complicated procedure than the standard registration of a company with a non-resident director. Although there are no residency requirements for the director in Slovakia, the permanent residence and residency of the director as a company manager is the main factor in registering the company as a VAT payer and confirming the tax residence of the Slovak company itself.
At present, in practice, Ukrainian citizens without a residence permit in Slovakia or the EU cannot directly act as managing director of a Slovak company. For the company's full-fledged activity, we recommend that a non-resident director obtain a residence permit in Slovakia or hire a citizen of Slovakia or another EU country as a general director.
